Apple Reveals New iPod Touch Model, Featuring Group FaceTime & AR Experiences
Arriving in six different colorways.
Following up on rumors that the iPod Touch was set to receive a new design for 2019, Apple has debuted the updated device. The latest iPod Touch features enhanced power, capability and communication implemented with the Apple-designed A10 Fusion chip. This update allows for an improved gaming experience, immersive augmented reality and even Group FaceTime.
The new AR features will be used for gaming, education and web browsing. These specific experiences will utilize shared AR, persistent AR — which is tied to a specific location — and image detection. This will allow the upgraded iPod Touch to bring 3D objects to life. Additionally, the new iPod Touch comes with three times faster graphics than previous models.
In regards to the design, it’s been described as “the most affordable iOS device.” Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing Greg Joswiak explains it as: “even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, Group FaceTime and augmented reality. The ultra-thin and lightweight design of the iPod Touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go.”
Apple’s latest iPod Touch is available now from the Apple web store, app and physical locations. It comes in three sizes, with a 32GB model (priced at $199 USD), an 128GB model ($299 USD) and 256GB ($399 USD). The updated Touch is available in six colorways including white, gold, blue, pink, “Space Grey” and “(PRODUCT)RED.”
