Footaction Taps into the Creative Spirit For Hypebae Fall Formal
Along with a customization workshop led by Nicole McLaughlin and Sue Tsai.
On September 5, HYPEBAE joined forces with Footaction to host a panel during our Fall Formal celebration that centered around boundary-breaking creatives who are forging new ground within their respective industries. Taking place at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral Youth Center in New York — which was made over to look like a high school gym — the “Creative Control” panel welcomed moderator and founder of Magic in Her Melanin, Shavone Charles along with stylist and creative consultant Rachael Wang, designer Pierre Davis of No Sesso and Social Media Director of Prada, Candace Marie.
The candid discussion covered topics such as intersectionality, imposter syndrome and creative evolution, as the group of fearless females examined their unconventional career paths. Sharing each of their distinct stories revealed that there’s “No One Way” to thrive as a multi-hyphenate in today’s creative climate. Offering their insight and expertise, the collective also discussed inclusivity within the fashion industry, mental health and how to navigate today’s social media-driven age.
After the panel concluded, the event space turned into an on-site sneaker customization workshop, led by Nicole McLaughlin and Sue Tsai. Attendees, including Gia Seo, Julia Lang, Liz Beecroft and Juno Shen, made their way to the Footaction Phys Ed-inspired space where they reworked their own PUMA Cali Bolds to create one-of-a-kind sneakers. Following the workshop, the night concluded with a blowout party that included dancing and a concession stand filled with drinks and finger foods.
