Weibo Launches Its Own Version of Instagram, Oasis
Is this China’s new go-to social media platform?
According to WWD, China‘s microblogging website Weibo is set to launch its own version of Instagram dubbed Oasis. The app is described as “a lifestyle and fashion social platform for young people” where it aims to entice users who have high-quality taste and interest in the industry.
The layout of the app itself mimics Instagram and China’s Xiaohongshu – a social media and e-commerce platform. Those who download Oasis are able to browse content which they filter according to their interests like fashion, food, travel and beauty. Just like Instagram, users can edit and share their photos and videos by using the app’s filters. For the time being, Oasis can be accessed through invite only, and users can only log in with their mobile number, Weibo, WeChat or QQ account.
While it’s currently in its trial round, developers are still testing out the waters to see if this app will be China’s new go-to social platform. In related news, Instagram challenges Snapchat by developing a new messaging app called “Threads.”
