Gabriela Hearst Appointed as Creative Director of Chloé
The CFDA award-winner succeeds Natacha Ramsay-Levi.
Chloé has named its new creative director, New York-based designer Gabriela Hearst, just days after announcing the departure of Natacha Ramsay-Levi. Hearst, who is a 2020 CFDA Fashion Award winner, will show her first collection with Chloé in March and plans to continue operating her namesake label.
Hearst’s knack for handbag design and passion for sustainability will likely cross over to her tenure at Chloé. In fact, Chief Executive Riccardo Bellini cited the designer’s “powerful vision of more responsible fashion” in a statement announcing her appointment. Founded in 2015, Gabriela Hearst, the label, quickly gained recognition for its bags, which account for half of the brand’s sales. In particular, the Nina bag — a miniature style named after Nina Simone — gained it-bag status, garnering an 100-person-long waitlist. Chloé, whose Marcie bag once boasted similar demand, perhaps hopes to reinvigorate its accessories business under Hearst’s helm.
