Would You Cop These Spike-Studded Clogs From Matthew Williams’ New Givenchy Collection?
The newly-appointed creative director serves statement looks for Pre-Fall 2021.
Following up on his debut Spring/Summer 2021 collection, Matthew Williams has now unveiled his first pre-collection for Givenchy. The co-ed Pre-Fall 2021 range showcases statement garments and footwear signature to the newly-appointed creative designer‘s aesthetic.
“Ultimately, what I am trying to do in the Givenchy collections is reflect today’s world. I appreciate a certain material experimentation and an intense contrast in clothing that could only be achieved and exist now,” Williams speaks on the inspiration behind his latest creations for the luxury house. “The clothing is not disposable or dictatorial; instead we want it to become central to a person’s sense of their own style and build each season,” he adds. “It’s an idea of a more personal luxury, of simultaneous formality and informality, construction and comfort; it’s the luxury of people wearing clothes, not clothes wearing people.”
Continuing with design elements found in his debut collection, the Pre-Fall 2021 offering is a combination of traditional tailoring, knitwear and leather. Keeping a mostly black-and-white palette with occasional hits of red, pink, olive green and brown, the range features sleek suits complete with a minimal clasp closure at the front. The metallic theme is followed throughout both apparel and accessories, as seen from the striking set of layered rings and handbags with silver chains.
Taking the spotlight this time around are the shoes, which arrive in the form of clogs and Marshmallow slides accentuated with studs. Each pair is crafted using new TPU techniques putting a focus on comfort, while more elevated styles such as boots are dressed in patent leather.
