Apple to Update AirPods With Automatic Switching and a New "Spatial Audio" Feature for the Pro
Announced at the company’s first virtual Worldwide Developers Conference.
Apple hosted its very first virtual Worldwide Developers Conference earlier today, revealing the iOS 14 layout, as well as new Mac and iPad operating systems. The tech giant also unveiled brand new updates coming to its AirPods earbuds.
According to the presentation, the second-generation AirPods, AirPods Pro, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro will receive an automatic switching update, which will allow users to shift their earphones between any Apple device without having to reconnect manually. On top of that, the company revealed a new “Spatial Audio” feature for the AirPods Pro that replicates the surround sound system of a movie theater, as well as a new audio sharing feature for its Apple TV devices that allows two people to watch a movie or show simultaneously. Finally, for those who update to the iOS 14, you will be able to receive battery notifications of your wireless earbuds moving forward.
Apple has yet to announce when these updates are set to roll out, so stay tuned while we wait for more information. In the meantime, watch the full WWDC20 keynote presentation in the video above.
