Jessie Reyez Releases Powerful Video for 'Intruders'
“Colonialism is the mitochondria of racism.”
Jessie Reyez has just released the music vide for her track “Intruders,” which is a part of her debut album Before Love Came To Kill Us. Tapping into the deep-rooted effects of colonization, the animated video serves as an allegory reflecting today’s society, as well as the many detrimental effects brought on by oppression, theft and more by governmental institutions. The music video comes at a time where the cultural commentary is more important than ever, standing with the Black Lives Matter movement and supporting the voices that are needing to be heard. As Reyez herself sings, “Colonialism is the mitochondria of racism.”
In addition to the important message in the video, the singer is also making change by announcing that 100% of her royalties earned from “Intruders” streams in the U.S. until December 31, 2020, will be donated to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights organization.
