COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS Debuts New Nike Collaboration on SS21 Runway
The minishow took place this week in Tokyo.
Following a series of partnerships including the most recent Nike Blazer Mid with Naomi Osaka, COMME des GARÇONS has now showcased its Spring/Summer 2021 HOMME PLUS collection featuring another Nike collaboration. Themed “Metal Outlaw,” the latest range includes crisp, metallic details throughout.
CdG HOMME PLUS’ signature elements are seen on the runway, including blazers, slacks and skirts that are dressed in silver. Splashes of yellow, blue and pastel green add contrast, further highlighting the collection. “The metallic materials I often use in my interior designs are very apt in expressing my ideas. I would like to transplant that strength of metal into the clothes this time. I call it ‘Metal Outlaw,’” Rei Kawakubo explained in a press release.
“Of course, the fabrics we use in this collection are not actually made of any metal, but have its sense of strength, of heavy weight, and the look of its sheen and gloss, which now have come to form the theme of this collection,” she further commented. “It is my wish that the strength of metal, the strength that wouldn’t yield to any pressure or force, and the strength that will give birth to hope that we need to overcome the various hardships we now face, will all overlap in this collection.”
In addition to the fashion looks, a new Nike footwear partnership highlights the SS21 range. Arriving in black and white iterations of the Air Carnivore silhouette, the monochromatic shoes feature CdG HOMME PLUS branding on the heel, along with 3M material for a technical feel.
