Chika and Mulatto Make 'XXL' 2020 Freshman Class
Along with Lil Tjay, Fivio Foreign and more.
XXL has named this year’s Freshman Class, the publication’s annual lineup of 10 artists to watch. Holding with past years, 2020’s Freshman Class is male-dominated but features two female rappers: Chika and Mulatto.
Chika, who recently released her first EP, Industry Games, went viral in 2018 after posting a freestyle criticizing Kanye West on Twitter. Since then, the artist has been featured on NPR‘s Tiny Desk Concert series, as well as Jimmy Kimmel Live. Ohio native Mulatto won the Lifetime reality competition series The Rap Game in 2016, and eventually signed with RCA Records in March. After releasing a series of Gucci Mane covers, she collaborated with the hip-hop icon on a single, “Muwop.”
Also included on the list are Bronx-born Lil Tjay, Drake collaborator Fivio Foreign and Polo G, whose album The Goat shot to number two on the Billboard 200 back in May.
