Meghan and Harry Abandon Social Media

The Duchess of Sussex previously spoke up about online trolling and hate.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly quit social media, including platforms like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. According to the Sunday Times, the couple, who have stepped back as senior members of the Royal Family a year ago, will unlikely return to post any personal content.

Harry and Meghan had more than 10 million followers on their official Instagram account @sussexroyal, and haven’t shared any posts since March 2020. A source close to the two has shared that they do not have plans to use social media to promote their new Archewell Foundation, currently headquartered in the United States.

The news comes after Meghan Markle opened up about “almost unsurvivable” online abuse that she had received in the past. “I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female. Now, eight months of that I wasn’t even visible, I was on maternity leave or with a baby,” she commented. The decision marks another move the couple is taking in stepping away from the royal life, as figures like the Queen, Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge use social media to connect with the public.
