Melody Ehsani's FW21 Lookbook Stars Music Video Director Melina Matsoukas

Melody Ehsani is set to launch her Fall/Winter 2021 collection. To commemorate the new range, the designer has tapped music video director Melina Matsoukas to star in her latest lookbook.

For those who aren’t familiar with Matsoukas, she has been questioning status quos and redefining the rules in her industry since the beginning of her career. She has directed some of the most iconic music videos and one of the few women — and even fewer women of color — to grace the space.

“We have always been enamored with how she redefined the ‘video girl’ in her use of lighting, beauty and fashion,” ME. states. Matsoukas took all those experiences creating videos for icons like Beyoncé, Rihanna and Whitney Houston and translated them into her directorial debut on the show Insecure with Issa Rae. Again, her study of lighting choices for Black bodies, selection of art on the walls, fashion choices for characters and music selections were a huge influence on what set the tone for Rae’s vision. Most recently she made her first movie Queen and Slim with friend Lena Waithe.

“We highlight Melina not because of her impressive resume, but because of her heart and vision. Dedicated to being a mentor and always paying it forward while going against the old world systems to create a new path for those that are to come is no easy feat,” the brand adds.

ME.’s FW21 line is comprised of silhouettes inspired by Ehsani’s heritage, family members and friendships. Highlights include the Sisterhood jacket, quilted jacket, Sisterhood trousers and deconstructed work pants, which were made in collaboration with Hellz Bellz‘s founder, Lanie Alabanza-Barcena. Elsewhere, the oversized Baba’s fuzzy sweater vest features a brushed Persian rug print and bejeweled buttons. The activewear such as the ME. Core bra and ME. Core legging round off the collection.

Take a closer look at what to expect above. The ME. FW21 line will release online on November 12.
