Demna Gvasalia Pulls a Kanye West and Renames Himself "Demna"

With the aim to separate his work from his personal life.

Balenciaga‘s creative director Demna Gvasalia has officially taken the mononymous route.

Similar to what Kanye West, aka Ye, did back in October, the Georgian designer now goes by only his first name, Demna. However, unlike Ye, Demna has not filed his name change legally and is still keeping his last name.

Revealed in Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall 2022 show notes, the house stated: “From now on, Demna uses only his first name, distinguishing an artist title from a birthname and therefore separating creative work from personal life. In all press going forward, he chooses to be referred to simply as Demna.”

In case you missed it, don’t forget to check out the luxury brand’s latest Pre-Fall 2022 range.
