Following up on its numerous partnerships with the likes of MIKIMOTO and Stussy, COMME des GARÇONS has now returned with its Fall/Winter 2021 runway. In addition to the avant-garde garments, the collection features more collaborative footwear with Nike and Salomon.
Titled “Landscape of Shadows,” the show is dominated by a monochromatic palette and oversized silhouettes. “Amidst the incessant overflowing of miscellaneous things, the deluge of color, the flooding of sound and the inundation of information … I needed to take one breath in the monochrome serenity,” Rei Kawakubo explains the inspiration behind each design in a press release. Standout styles include extravagantly puffed sleeves and balloon-shaped gowns, as well as letter prints splashed onto tights and dresses.
One of the highlights of the collection are the top hats created by Dazed editor-in-chief Ibrahim Kamara, who has never designed hats before. As for footwear, models take the stage in black-and-white XA-ALPINE and plover-patterned CROSS shoes by Salomon. Nike also takes the spotlight with a collaborative HO21 Premier silhouette.
