Angel Chen Channels Inner "Dragon Lady" on FW21 Runway

Featuring collaborative footwear styles with vegan label Rombaut.

With Shanghai Fashion Week in full swing, Angel Chen has now showcased her Fall/Winter 2021 runway dubbed “Daughter of the Dragon.” The lineup takes inspiration from the roles played by Anna May Wong, the first Chinese-American Hollywood actress who was known by her nickname “Dragon Lady.”

Wong gained her moniker from striving to overcome stereotypes set by the world, influencing more Asian women to represent their culture and power. Angel Chen’s FW21 garments pay homage to this figure with black-and-white prints from the 1931 film Daughter of the Dragon, in addition to textures and patterns such as artificial leather, washed denim, tie-dye and more. Chinese influences are seen through subtle details such as knot buttons as well as collars. Standout looks include a rainbow tie-dye ensemble accentuated with dramatic ruffles along with digital prints found on loose-fitted tops and jeans.

In addition to the garments featuring a team-up with Canada Goose, the runway includes a footwear collaboration with Paris-based vegan label Rombaut. Eco-friendly iterations of Chen’s signature “dragon teeth” sole are added onto the shoe brand’s Boccaccio trainers, while dragon horn-inspired hardware is found on low and high-top silhouettes.
