These Are the Best New Sunscreens of 2021
May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month — we’ve rounded up our favorite ways to stay protected.
Skincare rule number one: wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine. It’s a principle hammered into us by doctors, estheticians and concerned friends alike, but many continue to overlook the essential product as a part of their daily routine. Besides preventing sun damage in the form of dark spots and other unsightly formations, regularly applying sunscreen can significantly reduce your risk of developing skin cancer. In fact, the Skin Cancer Foundation reports that daily use of SPF 15 can reduce your chance of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by approximately 40 percent, as well as lower melanoma risk by 50 percent.
To reap the full benefits of sunscreen, be sure to apply and re-apply liberally. Though it can be tricky to navigate reapplication while wearing makeup, brands such as Brush On Block offer SPF protection in the form of face powder that can be used for touch-ups throughout the day. Other products combine foundation and sunscreen into one — Milk Makeup‘s Sunshine Skin Tint offers SPF 30 protection and natural-looking coverage in fair to deep shades. Of course, plain old sunscreen does the trick, too. Sun care specialist Supergoop! released several new items recently, including its illuminating Glowscreen in the form of an SPF 40 body lotion.
