Watch Jodie Turner-Smith Take On the Tudors in First Trailer for 'Anne Boleyn'
The ‘Slim & Queen’ star will portray the notorious Queen of England.
British broadcaster Channel 5 has released the first trailer for Anne Boleyn, a three-part psychological thriller recreating the events leading up to the execution of King Henry VIII’s most famous wife. Jodie Turner-Smith stars as the disgraced queen, whom some consider a feminist martyr, opposite Mark Stanley as king.
The decision to cast Turner-Smith as Boleyn fueled racist backlash from those displeased that a Black actor was chosen to portray a white royal figure. Anne Boleyn will focus on the last few months of Boleyn’s life, as she plans for her daughter’s future (the future Queen Elizabeth I) and defends herself against charges of treason and adultery.
