Maison Margiela x Reebok Drop Gladiator Sandal-Inspired Sneaker
The Classic Leather Tabi High is the duo’s latest collaborative silhouette.
Maison Margiela and Reebok‘s latest collaboration is half gladiator sandal, half high-top sneaker. Applying Margiela’s iconic split-toe design to Reebok’s Classic Leather runner, a silhouette originally introduced in 1985, the duo introduce the Classic Leather Tabi High. Further retooling the sneaker, the longtime collaborators add cut-out detailing to its cuff and lateral, imbuing the style with a sandal-like feel.
The sneaker’s cut-out detailing follows in the tradition of decortiqué, a practice developed by Margiela’s Creative Director, John Galliano. The technical term refers to the stripping down of a garment or accessory to its core structure — with the Classic Leather Tabi High, leather paneling is cut away to reveal the skeleton of the shoe. The sneaker arrives in four colorways: tonal red, white and black, along with “Bianchetto,” a black sneaker coated in white paint that chips away with wear.
The Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi High retails for $595 USD at Reebok’s website.
