Panic – the company behind hit video games like Untitled Goose Game and Nour: Play With Your Food, is finally launching its retro gaming device, Playdate. The anticipated release follows COVID-related delays involving factory shutdowns and remote working conditions.
Announced in a video presentation, the final Playdate design dons a retro-style look with a rectangular silhouette dressed in yellow. The device comes with a cube-shaped dock reminiscent of ’00s computers that works as a magnetic charger, stereo speaker and a pen holder.
As for the gaming console itself, “season one” of Playdate features 24 titles of which 21 have been announced. Users will be able to try out two new games each week over the course of 12 weeks. The details for each are kept secret as of now, but titles include Casual Birder, Executive Golf DX, Flipper Lifter, Lost Your Marbles and Sasquatchers, just to name a few.
Watch the full announcement video above. The Playdate on its own with the 24 originals games is priced at $179 USD with the magnetic cover costing an additional $29 USD. Panic has yet to announce full details on the Stereo Dock. You can head to the official website to sign up for preorders, which will begin in July.
