Studio Ghibli and Seiko Craft 'Castle in the Sky'-Inspired Watch
Designed with nods to the 1986 film throughout.
Seiko‘s latest timepiece is only for the most devoted Studio Ghibli fans. The legendary animation studio and watch purveyor have teamed up on a limited-edition Presage model inspired by Castle in the Sky.
Symbolism from the 1986 film is incorporated throughout the 40.5mm stainless steel timepiece. The crest of Laputa, the floating city that the movie’s protagonists endeavor to find, is embossed on the model’s enamel dial and glass crown insert. The back of the watch’s caseback bears an illustration of the magical city alongside a chant used to unlock its power: “Leetay Latuparita Ulus Aria Los Balu Netoreel,” or “Save me and revive the eternal light.” The special model arrives in a presentation box complete with a message from Studio Ghibli Co-Founder Hayao Miyazaki himself.
The Studio Ghibli x Seiko Presage retails for £1,350 GBP (approximately $1,878 USD) at Seiko’s website. The watch is limited to 1,200 units.
