The EU's Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Passport Is Here
Valid in all EU and Schengen zone countries.
The European Union has officially launched its digital COVID-19 vaccine passport. The news comes after the ease of its travel restrictions on all fully vaccinated foreign travelers.
Valid in all EU and Schengen zone countries, the digital certificate allows people to show proof of their vaccination (AstraZeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson), negative COVID-19 result and past COVID-19 infection records. The document features a QR code along with your digital signature, verified via EU Gateway.
Some countries like Germany, which already issued five million certificates last month, have started rolling out the digital passport as well as recognizing it. According to The Verge, “the EU does not currently recognize the NHS pass, although some individual countries within the EU do, and that could change as countries work to make the systems compatible.”
Meanwhile, some states in the U.S. have their own version of a COVID-19 vaccine certificate. However, the country has yet to create its own nationwide system.
