Virgil Abloh Heads to the "LABORATORY OF FUN" for FW21 Off-White™ Runway
Marking the brand’s first in-person show in 16 months.
The fashion industry is definitely ready for a post-pandemic world with more designers returning to the runway. Showing his first in-person presentation in 16 months, Off-White™‘s Virgil Abloh headed to the “LABORATORY OF FUN” for the brand’s see-now-buy-now collection.
“Get your iPhones ready; the vibes are about to be immaculate,” the emcee announces as Bella Hadid opens the school gym-themed stage in an electric blue velour dress with matching knee-high boots. A star-studded cast featuring Joan Smalls, Honey Dijon and Amber Valletta follow in dresses with inside-out seams and maxi-length coats. Contrasting the toned-down blue and gray colors are patterns such as houndstooth check on bucket hats and tops, as well as a multicolored abstract print on shirts.
Midway through the show, Tamil dancers in tonal bra tops and cargo pants accompany M.I.A. as she performs hits such as “Paper Planes.” Abloh explained the team-up in an interview with WWD: “She’s an artist that’s known for speaking her stance on global issues and I wanted to make a safe space for her to do her art and pair it together with what Off-White™ stands for. It’s about representing a young generation, it’s not about selling clothes.”
