Elon Musk Offers $5K USD To Remove Twitter Account Tracking His Private Jet
The “Elon Musk’s Jet” account uses bots to monitor where the Tesla founder is flying.
Elon Musk has reportedly offered a 19-year-old social media user $5,000 USD to remove a Twitter account that is made to track the movements of his private jet.
The @ElonJet handle, also known as “Elon Musk’s Jet,” uses bots to monitor where the Tesla CEO’s plane is flying, based on public air-traffic data. As reported by Protocol, Musk asked Jack Sweeney, the owner of the account, if he could take it down. “Can you take this down? It is a security risk,” the CEO asked. Sweeney responded: “Yes I can but it’ll cost you a Model 3 only joking unless?” Musk later said in the conversation: “I don’t love the idea of being shot by a nutcase.”
@ElonJet is only one of 15 accounts Sweeney has created. These pages are designed to tweet each time a select plane takes off or lands, tracking jets owned by high-profile individuals like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.
On top of the $5,000 USD, Musk offered Sweeney the job to prevent “crazy people” from tracking his whereabouts. “Any chance to up that to $50k? It would be great support in college and would possibly allow me to get a car maybe even a Model 3,” Sweeney replied.
Musk has yet to respond to the request. As of now, @ElonJet is still running and has more than 116,500 followers.
