Moon Boots Are the It-Girl Footwear of Winter 2022

The old-school cold weather staple is making a comeback.

Celebrities like Dua Lipa are embracing the wintery season by bringing back the classic Moon Boot. The oversized Y2K staple is yet another nostalgic accessory making a resurgence, as trendy It girls like the British singer go back in time for style inspiration.

Originally created during the 1960s by Italian entrepreneur Giancarlo Zanatta, Moon Boots are inspired by humans’ race to space, hence their name and sturdy structure perfect for gripping any extraterrestrial terrain. While some may scoff at the boots’ clunky style, today’s stars seem to be unbothered by the shoes’ acquired taste.

Model Hailey Bieber wore the fluffy footwear in a Victoria’s Secret campaign, while the “Physical” singer donned her cold weather shoes outside in a bikini to celebrate the holidays, making it clear that the retro boots deserved all of the attention. It seems like the best way to pull off the ’00s classic is to embrace their chunky appearance, wearing little else to make sure they stand out. For a more practical look, follow actor Iris Apatow, who paired the cozy classic with a comfy pair of sweatpants and a matching varsity jacket.
