Cardi B Slams Madonna, Says "Icons Really Become Disappointments"
Responding to a comment the Queen of Pop made on Instagram.
Cardi B took to social media over the weekend, reacting to a comment Madonna made about the rapper’s hit “WAP.”
The Queen of Pop had reflected on her S.E.X. coffee table book, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. “30 years ago I published a book called S.E.X. In addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone,” the star wrote, noting that the 1992 book was considered scandalous then, eventually helping pave the way for female artists today. She added, “Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball.” She concluded her message, “You’re welcome b-tches,” along with a clown emoji.
Feeling disrespected, Cardi later slammed Madonna in a series of now-deleted tweets. “I literally payed this woman homage so many times cause I grew up listening to her… she can make her point without putting clown emojis and getting slick out the mouth.” She accompanied the tweet with a screenshot of a 2018 article in which Cardi praises Madonna, additionally writing, “These icons really become disappointments once u make it in the industry that’s why I keep to myself.”
Fans pointed out that Cardi might have misinterpreted Madonna’s post, to which she said, “I know exactly what she said and I understand but it’s about THE TONE …Calling me b-tches and putting clown emojis? The f-ck!” She continued, “EXACTLY SAY WAT YOU WANT TO SAY BUT DONT INSULT ME THE F-CK …nobody gonna lil girl me (specially a white woman).”
Later on, both artists took to Twitter to update their fans that they made amends. “I talked to Madonna …It was beautiful …Have a great day and drive safely yallll,” Cardi wrote. Madonna’s tweet read, “I love you @iamcardib!! Always have and always will.”
