Single During the Holidays? Tap Your Main Character Energy, Expert Says
For all the Beyoncé’s and Kim K’s in the family.
The holiday season is upon us which means it’s time for every intrusive dating question your family has prepared, as your wifed-up family member gets proposed to in the background. In preparation for the stress to come, dating coach, Kate Mansfield from the dating app Badoo has some singles advice.
The sight of the term main character energy will either remind you of TikTok, make you cringe, or admittedly, both. However, the trend has got one thing right: you deserve to curate your life according to your standards.
Mansfield suggests tapping into your main character this holiday season. “The best thing is to get really comfortable with your own company. Take yourself out on some fabulous dates, go to places that you’ve always wanted to visit. Learn to feel comfortable in your own skin, and in your own company.”
During this season, it’s natural to find someone to cozy up to, to avoid those uncomfortable feelings of being alone or not having a ride or die of your own. But as Mansfield shared, “Being with someone just for the sake of being with someone, and particularly for the sake of being with someone over Christmas, may make you feel lonelier in the long run.” It also can spark feelings of resentment. For example, listening to a date talk your ear off when you genuinely don’t care, you just want cuddles and to feel less lonely.
So, instead of opting for f-ckery, splurge on yourself this holiday season. Make a list of everything you’d like to experience if you could curate the vibe and treat yourself. As Mansfield closed, “A wrong connection is worse than being on your own and being free to explore amazing new opportunities.”
