NIKI Reveals New Short Film for Her Viral Single, "Every Summertime"
The 88rising artist gives us “something we can dance to” in a timeless love story.
NIKI is back right in time for Valentine’s Day with a new short film for her single “Every Summertime.” Directed by Daniel Cloud Campos, and written and produced by Jacob Ray, the visual is an ode to an enduring romance infused with classic R&B.
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the film, titled Every Summertime: A Love Story, opens on a couple in love, as a young woman gifts her partner with a pair of shoes. As the film moves to the present, on the day of the couple’s 50th anniversary, it follows their love story through the decades in a series of flashbacks. Choreographed dance sequences see an elderly man dancing through Chinatown Central Plaza in memory of his wife.
The 23-year-old’s “Every Summertime” is the lead single for the official soundtrack for Marvel Studios’ film, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings and continues to see success across streaming platforms. The song has gained momentum with over 95 million streams and 62.5 million listeners, as well as ranking #1 on Apple Music Indonesia All Genres.
The Jakarta-born, LA-based singer-songwriter and producer has made audio waves across the industry in the past few months, collaborating with the likes of adidas Originals and participating in the “Asia Rising Together” benefit concert last May. She is set to perform at Coachella 2022 alongside a star-studded Friday lineup including Peggy Gou and Princess Nokia.
