'Squid Game' Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk Teases the Plot for Season 2
Which is estimated to premiere in 2023 or 2024.
Season 1 of Squid Game was a lot to handle, and for the second season, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk plans to take it up a notch.
“Humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again,” he recently told Vanity Fair. Hwang also imposed an important question for viewers to keep in mind. “I want to ask the question, ‘Is true solidarity between humans possible?’” he said when asked about the upcoming season’s thematic preoccupations.
Hwang also reflected on the outcome of Season 1. “If they were capable of talking with one another, of cooperating with one another, I do agree that there could have been a possibility that we could have seen more winners,” he explained, adding that instead, the characters were “focused on wanting to kill each other off.”
So far, Hwang only has three pages worth of ideas, which later will become scripts. Without giving much away, Hwang shared that Gi-Hun will definitely be coming back. Additionally, the actors have their own hopes for Gi-Hun. “I just want Gi-hun to have a more happy life,” HoYeon Jung told the outlet.
While it’s too soon to know what Gi-Hun’s fate in Season 2 of the Netflix series will be, in December 2021 Hwang told the Associated Press that “he will do something for the world.”
