JW Anderson Makes Its Milan Debut, Showcasing SS23 Menswear and Resort 2023 Collections

Playful designs inspired by Philip Ridley’s ’90s play, ‘The Pitchfork Disney.’

JW Anderson has made its Milan debut, heading to the Italian fashion capital to showcase its Spring/Summer 2023 menswear and Resort 2023 collections at Milan Fashion Week Men’s.

For his namesake label, Jonathan Anderson took inspiration from Philip Ridley’s ’90s play The Pitchfork Disney, which he performed in the earlier days of his career as an aspiring actor. Telling Vogue that wanted to express “the shock of theater,” the designer presented garments incorporated with BMX handlebars, broken skate decks, CDs and more, bringing a playful touch of nostalgia to the collection. Further standout elements included bar codes printed in oversized form on tees and shorts, as well as tops featuring can lids.

Elsewhere, Anderson used motifs such as industrial rubber gloves and door hinges to create unexpected silhouettes. The creative accompanied these pieces with studded versions of the Bumper Bag, in addition to puffy tote bags, sneakers with oversized soles, slides, clogs and more.
