GCDS' SS23 Collection Gets Weird With Spongebob Squarepants
What if aliens were hot?
Led by creative director Giuliano Calza, GCDS has just revealed its far-out esoteric Spring/Summer 2023 collection. Inspired by a fascination with otherworldly beings, the latest SS23 collection celebrates and explores the beauty in our differences. “The feeling of being alien is a common one. Sometimes we feel alien in the places that were once home. GCDS turns this feeling into a joyous force, embracing everyone’s colors,” shares an exclusive press release. Our favorite seaside creature, Spongebob Squarepants makes a delightful appearance as the collection’s unabashedly authentic mascot.
At a time when subtle and brazen forms of fascism are on the rise, practicing true self-expression is an act of resistance. GCDS presents a whimsical array of ethereal garments fit for a surrealist social club. Form-fitting catsuits steal the show while shimmering sequins cover a pink and mint-green evening dress, creating a shiny second skin. A yellow distressed denim maxi skirt and bustier stand out alongside a Spongebob Squarepants bralette underneath a netted mini dress. Elsewhere, nautical flowers adorn a summer-ready electric green slip with a fringed hem. The boisterous sponge from Bikini Bottom makes another appearance on a textured, rainbow-colored sweater.
