Basically, Austin Butler's Elvis Presley Accent Is Not Going Anywhere
Despite it’s been nearly two years since he portrayed him in the biopic.
Austin Butler can’t seem to shake off his Elvis Presley voice.
The actor, who won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the biopic Elvis, addressed his Elvis accent, which he doesn’t realize he has. “I don’t think I sound like him still, but I guess I must because I hear it a lot,” he told press after the awards show.
He continued, “I often liken it to when somebody lives in another country for a long time, and I had three years where that was my only focus in life, so I’m sure there’s just pieces of my DNA that will always be linked in that way.”
Butler has previously talked about his voice change, revealing that seeing certain things related to Elvis “can trigger it.” He told Yahoo! Australia in June, “That was the voice I spoke in for two years. It was so habitual. You get done and you kinda don’t remember what your natural voice is.”
Additionally, he struggled with his own identity after filming wrapped up in March 2021. “You can lose touch with who you actually are. And I definitely had that when I finished Elvis — not knowing who I was,” he previously told British GQ.
