diptyque and James Blake Celebrate the Rebirth of "Do Son"
Featuring an animated short film by Werlen Meyer.
Cult-classic fragrance brand diptyque has joined creative forces with award-winning artist James Blake to celebrate the Do Son collection.
The inimitable and evocative scent borrows its name from the Vietnamese town co-founder Yves Couselant where spent his childhood years. Ripe with notes of tuberose, bright orange blossom, intoxicating jasmine and the marine accord, Do Son bears a distinctly verdant aroma, delivering a floral and aquatic perfume. To commemorate the collection’s 18th anniversary, diptyque tapped French animation studio Werlen Meyer to capture its memory-driven spirit.
Masterful illustrations blend the past with the present, shifting between Couselant’s Paris home to vibrant recollections of youthful beach-side adventures to his mother sitting in a pagoda. Clouds take the shape of boats, while images of Couselant playing a game of da cau amongst larger-than-life seashells. A swirling spoon in a teacup is transformed into a school of fish surrounding his canoe in the crystal blue waters.
Reflecting on the origins of the fragrance, Coueslant shares it was created with his mother in mind, revealing, “It was a collaboration with much sharing and listening between the three of us. I drew sustenance from the tales of travel and of life imparted to me during my encounters with the founders of diptyque, and Do Son was born out of those conversations.”
The limited Do Son collection is available on diptyque’s online store, retailing for $78 USD to $205 USD. An exclusive Tuberose candle, as well as a hand and soap set join the collection.
