Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY's SS23 "PHWOARRR!" Campaign Honors Queerness in All Its Glory

“I am this, but I can also be this.”

Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY‘s Spring/Summer 2023 “PHWOARRR!” collection celebrates queerness in all of its glory and multiplicity, acknowledging its inherent diversity and nuance.

Following the brand’s debut at Milan Fashion Week, its latest designs are an unapologetic homage to LGBTQ+ identities, shining a light on an oft-maligned community that rightfully refuses to stay hidden. “Queerness is defiance, but it is also adaption. It is a process of constant synthesis and hybridization, constant flux. It is always unapologetic, of course, but in the face of external hostility we find innovative ways to survive,” Jeffrey shares in an exclusive press release.

Harnessing the buzzing energy and stitched together nature of the LGBTQ+ community, the offering of garments presents a nostalgic yet refreshing aesthetic, offering painterly outerwear and shirts littered with doodles. Mesh is a recurring character, appearing in the form of tops bearing illustrations of faces upon closer inspection. A print of two people joining hands turns a longline jacket into a work of art as the watercolor piece is accompanied by a checkerboard hem, continuing the collection’s patchwork and hodge podge theme. Animal ears borrowed from the label’s signature hats adorn hoodies instead, pointing to the gathering’s playfulness and rebellious search for joy. The assortment’s fluid array of silhouettes lends itself to all genders as skirts and kilts bulk up the release.
