GANNI's New Bou Bag Introduces Plant-Based Leather Alternative, Ohoskin
A luxury leather alternative made of waste from orange and cacti farming.
GANNI just launched its newest bag offering, inspired by the “Copenhagen way of life.”
Dubbed the Bou bag, named after the nickname of creative director Ditte Reffstrup’s oldest daughter, the latest innovation is crafted from recycled leather, and arrives in a new leather alternative called “Ohoskin.” Developed from the waste that comes as a result of orange and cacti farming, the plant-based material made its debut at the brand’s Fall/Winter 2023 show.
“This bag is really what GANNI is all about. We really wanted to design something that speaks to a modern luxury mindset. We wanted to create a really unique design that still carries the GANNI DNA, something that feels easy, playful, but still sophisticated,” explains Reffstrup in a press release. “A bag made to follow you everywhere. I’m also so proud to be launching this silhouette in a next-gen fabric that brings us one step closer to becoming free from virgin leather by 2023. It’s such an exciting moment for us and I can’t wait to see people make it part of their everyday life,” she continues.
Continuing GANNI’s commitment to phasing out virgin leather from its products by 2023, the new bag marks a shift towards an even more responsible future for the brand. To introduce the new design, GANNI has collaborated with multiple fabric innovators in a bid to source alternatives to virgin animal leather. Arriving in a playful, hexagonal shape, the new silhouette boasts six different colorways of black, brown, pink, green, red and white.
