The Weeknd and Sorayama Tease Fans During ‘After Hours’

Iconic.

In preparation of The After Hours til Dawn tour, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye teases fans with the art of Japanese icon, Hajime Sorayama.

Debuting a larger-than-life illustration by Soroyama, The Weeknd gave fans a sneak peek of the tour’s set design via Instagram. According to Tesfaye’s caption, Soroyama was commissioned for the second leg of the tour, taking place in the UK, Europe and Latin America.

Featuring his renowned and seductive robot, the stage design glitters metallic and chrome — Soroyama’s signature. As the imagery rotates onscreen it encapsulates the viewer, it exudes sex appeal and coquettish femininity — an essence The Weekend frequently references in his music.

The collaboration proves to be a great choice for both creative teams as Soroyama frequently taps sex appeal from iterations of Marilyn Monroe to working with the Museum of Sex. The Weeknd, on the other hand, enjoys creating worlds through his music and according to his posts Instagram caption, “We building a chrome metropolis for this leg.”
