Whether worn with a full face of makeup or paired with only filled-in eyebrows and mascara, adding red lipstick is the conventional go-to from many across all walks of life, from everyday people to red-carpet celebrities. It’s a timeless and universal statement that can be customized to suit any skin tone and worn for any occasion, day or night.

Red lipstick instantly transforms a look, adding a pop of color and a touch of glamour. It exudes confidence and makes a bold statement, drawing attention to the lips and enhancing the overall beauty of the face. With its wide range of shades and finishes, there is a red lipstick for everyone, whether you prefer a classic true red, a deep burgundy or a vibrant cherry red. Red lipstick is not just a makeup product; it is an iconic symbol of femininity, power and sophistication.

When the Hypebae Beauty team turned our ears to industry streets, we learned that for the 2023 Oscars that red lipstick was the most worn shade by A-listers on the carpet, so we knew to keep our eyes peeled for a steady trend, and to no surprise, the girls have stayed true to their red lips since then.

We’ve sourced some of the most influential celebrities whose red lips we’re obsessed with and will be taking notes from for our fall beauty inspo.

If we’ve learned nothing else from Gomez, we’ve learned that a dramatic winged eye paired with a bold red lip is enough to turn heads and take names.

Washington surely knows her shade of red when it comes to rocking the trend. The almost coral-hue fits well on her neutral, caramel-kissed tone and is perfect for catching a vacay vibe or for a sultry night out on the town.

Zendaya

Zendaya knows. In this instance, she was a vision in red as she commanded attention in her Bottega Veneta dress and striking red lip, paired with a slicked-back ballet bun.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Did Tracee invent the red lip? Since the ’90s the star has turned the wear of red lips into one of her signature key notes. Whether she’s hanging poolside or in full glam from head to toe, the first choice will always most certainly be red lipstick.

Sydney Sweeney

Even though Sweeney is the IRL version of the sugar plum fairy and can be counted on for a soft, rosy or flesh-toned lip, we know that when she goes red, she means business.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

AOC wearing red as a Latinx woman indicates strength and resilience. From a cultural to political perspective, the red evokes much power and confidence off of the State Rep that transcends to the masses that she continually influences.
