High-Tops, Wedge Sneakers and Wrestling Boots are FW24's Most Popular Kicks
Evidenced by recent releases from Stella McCartney, adidas Originals, Peachy Den and more.
Footwear trends are ever-changing, with new silhouettes cropping up season after season. 2023 was dubbed the year of the Samba by Lyst, while in 2024, it seems that PUMA‘s revamped Speedcat is here for the annual crown. In general though, we’ve seen a shift from chunky dad sneakers towards slimmer silhouettes, with sportswear-inspired design a major reason behind it. As a result, the Speedcat supremacy makes perfect sense, along with the rise of styles like Onitsuka Tiger‘s Mexico 66, Rihanna’s PUMA Fenty Avanti and new releases from AMIRI and ADER ERROR.
Now, an evolution of the narrow silhouette is rising through the ranks, resulting in the quiet resurgence of high-tops, wedge sneakers and wrestling boots. Spotted at Spring/Summer 2025 shows from LOEWE and Stella McCartney, the elongated silhouettes play into the current hybridization of footwear, while taking inspiration from sports like football, boxing and wrestling.
Read on for some of the recent examples we’ve spotted and stay tuned for more.
Isabel Marant x Converse
Queen of the wedge sneaker, Isabel Marant recently joined forces with Converse for a capsule collection that reimagined the brand’s most classic silhouettes. Tapping into the indie sleaze revival, the hi-top kicks arrived in two core colorways of black and white, elevated by fuzzy, distressed fabric and purple laces.
adidas Originals x Stella McCartney Rasant Sneaker
Stella McCartney‘s new adidas Originals collaboration made its debut on the runway this season, dubbed the unisex Rasant sneaker. Inspired by vintage racing shoes, the high-top silhouette arrived in grey and white hues, complete with a fringing detail to give it a contemporary touch.
adidas Originals x Peachy Den Japan H
Most recently, Peachy Den unveiled its first-ever customized collection with adidas Originals, fusing one-of-a-kind apparel with a footwear offering. One of the silhouettes on offer was a Peachy take on the Japan H sneaker, featuring a high-top silhouette with an elongated tongue. Presenting a more femme-forward take on the classically masculine shoe, the sneaker was updated with silver stripes and graphic detailing.
Ottolinger Sneaker Heel
Similarly, Ottolinger‘s Fall/Winter 2024 collection included an oversized version of the classic sneaker heel, granted, offering a slightly chunkier silhouette than the others we’ve spotted. Though the slimmer versions seem to be the most popular, Ottolinger makes a case for the comeback of the wedge.
PUMA x NOAH Wrestling Boot
We’ve just seen the second installment of NOAH and PUMA’s ongoing collaboration, featuring the co-branded “Wrestling Boot.” Arriving in a clean black-and-white colorway, the new shoe quite clearly takes its inspiration from wrestling uniforms, whilst retaining the minimal design aesthetic of NOAH.
PONY KO-80 Extra High
PONY recently expanded its women’s offering the with the addition of the KO-80 Extra High. The boxing boot is built with a leather upper and side-zip detailing and arrives in black, red, white and chrome silver. To complement the release, PONY tapped dancer Emilie Brooklyn to underscore its dedication to championing community through self-expression.
