Are We Getting A 'Barbie 2'?

According to a December 13 report by The Hollywood Reporter, the Barbie 2 film “in production,” however details of the plot have not been spilled. Given Gerwig’s history, we won’t be receiving a plotline any time soon, either.
“I find whenever I’ve shared ideas too early, they become bad, then the movie’s not going to be any good,” she said at the WGA panel in 2023. “I don’t like to talk about things too early or pitch things or show treatments too early because it feels like it’s gonna somehow wreck what the movie is.”

Despite her fears, the Barbie film was not only highly successful but has earned its own modern universe. Before the film’s release Barbie Pink took on a life of its own and inspired the Barbiecore aesthetic fitted with an AirBnb Barbie mansion, Crocs collab and even Maserati joining the hype. In total, the film’s lead Margot Robbie earned a $50 million USD paycheck for her iconic role.
As for the timeline, sources have not yet provided details. However, it’s been rumored the pitch has been presented to Warner Bros. Gerwig and Baumbach’s PR have denied the rumors as of December 16 but fans are still waiting on a sequel. One tweeted, “Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach teaming up again for ‘BARBIE 2’? That’s a recipe for cinematic magic. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for us!”
