Chappell Roan Wins Best New Artist, Tour Demand Jumps 614%
After telling a photographer “Shut the f-ck up,” of course.
MTV‘s hit Video Music Awards crowns Chappell Roan as 2024’s Best New Artist.
“Can you believe it?!” she said. “I’m at the VMAs! I’m going to read the speech I wrote in my journal”
Thank you MTV, Island Records, my team, my family and friends. I want to dedicate this award to all the drag artists who inspire me. I also want to dedicate it to all the queer and trans people who make my music pop, to all the people who love my songs, hate them, and all the gay people. To my fans, to all the people who listen to my music, to those who listen when I share my joys and my fears, thank you for listening. And to all the queer kids watching out in the Midwest, I see you all. I relate to you all, because I am you, and never let anyone tell you you can’t be who you want to be!”

Following her win, she saw a 614% jump in tour demand, says Google Trends — all after getting into it on the red carpet with a photographer.
Her win follows a long line of women who’ve dominated the category. Ironically, not a single man has won the category since Khalid in 2017. Since then, women have rightfully dominated the music industry with Beyoncé recently shouting out GloRilla, Chappell Roan and more.
