New Study: Gen Z is Going "Boysober" for Mercury Retrograde
Looks like the “trend” is here to stay.
If you’ve been living under a rock, “boysober” is the latest dating trend trending on TikTok thanks to creator Hope Woodard. According to Flirtini dating app, astrology girlies are taking “boysober” notes for an upcoming astrological event.
Mercury in Retrograde, beginning on April 1, 2024 is a period of deep reflection and notoriously — chaotic dating lives. Naturally, the period of reflection can cause problems with technology, vehicles and most importantly, relationships.
According to Flirtini’s latest study of 2,000 adults, “71% of people believe that Mercury retrograde has a negative impact on their relationship, and 46% admit that their loved one was acting unusual as soon as Mercury started its odd spin.” As the brand shared, “When it looks like our solar system is all out of sync, our relationships can feel the same.”
So much so, that 1 in 4 people “have been dumped because of Mercury retrograde” and about half of people reported “unusually” unnecessary behaviors and “an inability to talk about problems.”
As a result, users reported going “boysober” to avoid the chaos of Mercury retrograde. More specifically, 1 in 3 respondents reported avoiding going on first dates during the astrological event and “37% have canceled a date after realizing their plans clash with the planets.”
It appears the “boysober” trend is here to stay so Flirtini’s in-house dating expert, Anastasiya Pochotna, shared a few tips. “Mercury movements are out of your control, but what you say and do isn’t. If you can keep calm and avoid confrontation for just a few weeks, it’s entirely possible to stop your relationship from spinning out of control.”
