In celebration of Women’s Month, we’ve compiled a list of female artists exploring womanhood through sex-positive art, namely sculptures, paintings and photography.

Anna Uddenberg

Known for boundary-defying works such as “Continental Breakfast” and “HOMEWRECKER,” Swedish-based artist Uddenberg often explores — and exaggerates — what it means to be feminine.

Portia Munson

Munson often plays with the notion of femininity and consumerism using found objects a means to portray her message. As shared on her website (and seen above), Nude, is “a sexualized but armless and legless female mannequin’s body is smothered with kitsch figurines of women that are bound to each other with pantyhose, contemplating commodified ideas of female beauty and objectification.”

Bex Day

London-based photographer Day proudly subverts “standardized beauty by focusing on the uniqueness of the vulva and celebrating the similarities and differences they share,” she told us. “PETAL,” in particular, is a photo series merging photography and writing to document each subject’s relationship with their vulva. In a world that overly sexualizes nudity, “PETAL” offers a more personal take on “love, loss, pleasure, pain, survival rebirth and reclamation.”

Maiya Mulan

Maiya Mulan is a New York-based artist painting the experiences of women — especially her own. Depicting forms of pleasure from the literal vulva to women communing, “the stories these women hold can be told from every end of this earth. We endure the same struggles and trials despite our differences of ethnicity, bracket, language or location,” Mulan told us. “It’s important to me to instill confidence and self love in women and teach them that it is okay to be sexual liberated beings.”

Charlotte Rutherford

From shooting your favs like Nicki Minaj, to a catalog that shows love to every body type, LA-based artist Rutherford is already on your radar. Most recently, the multi-disciplinary creative captured the “Panty Show” series and lingerie brand launch with Michaela Stark. In each image, women of all shapes and sizes can see couture-level representation of themselves. See here.
