Most Talked About Show: OFF-WHITE
OFF-WHITE’s celebrity guest-list made it one of the most talked about shows this season so far, with names like Flavor Flav, Camila Cabello, Leon Bridges, Suni Lee, Issa Rae, and Mary J. Blige in attendance. Held at a public park slash basketball court, the show was accessible to the public, with several people actually stopping their pickleball games to watch.
Most Inclusive: WILLY CHAVARRIA
“Welcome to América” offered a tribute to the immigrant community with each outfit embodying both their hardship and dignity, showcasing an honest and raw interpretation of Chavarria’s personal queerness, biracialism and the environment he experienced growing up. The unmistakeable sound of a mariachi band started off the show, followed by a performance from Yaritzia y Su Esencia.. YG, Joey Bada$$, Noah Lyles, Dara, Paloma Elsesser and other friends of the brand walked.
Best Set Design/Staging: TOMMY HILFIGER
The show was held inside a Staten Island Ferry with a gorgeous view of Brooklyn with really great attention to detail, even the ship’s buoys and flags had the Tommy Hilfiger logo. When guests arrived, they were handed boxes of popcorn and there were TH pins inside. Wu-Tang Clan performed.
Best Soundtrack: WHO DECIDES WAR
Under mesmerizing projections across the venue’s walls, the Who Decides War show was soundtracked by a mix of Ye, Alicia Keys, Stephanie Mills and Jamiroquai courtesy of American rapper and producer Cash Cobain, alongside student musicians from Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.
Honorable Mentions: Jane Wade, Coach, Susan Alexandra
At Jane Wade, models had “Jane Wade” tattoos on their backs, wrists and legs, paired with techn-inspired accessories like wired headphones woven into their hair. Its set design saw shredded paper take over the location, replicated by two looks in the collection which also featured the same shredded paper motif. At Coach, bags were definitely the star of the show, offering an ode to New York City — even featuring a crochet-like version of the classic “I Love New York” t-shirt. At Susan Alexandra, the designer worked with Rachel Antonoff to present a “Best In Show” dog show, showcasing the brand while supporting rescue animals. Blu Detiger, Dylan Mulvaney, Tavi Gevinson, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and more brought out rescue dogs during the show.
