You Have To Witness Kim Mesches' Wearable Art
Loved by the likes of Cardi B, Marina Abramović and Ashley Graham.
On February 4, multidisciplinary artist Kim Mesches unveiled a new line of wearable art titled, “Collection 6.”
Known for catching the eye of celebrities like Cardi B and Ashley Graham to art icons like Marina Abramović, Mesches’ multidisciplinary approach is highly sought after. Merging mediums, he pushes the boundaries of materials and how each interacts, creating an expansive world through garments.
The New York-based designer “This series,” the exclusive press release began, “fuses signature wearable pieces with metallic elements and natural materials, pushing the boundaries of what happens when these components interact. The works embody a fusion of futuristic cyber surrealism, nature, and art—imagining, for instance, what a plant’s molecular structure might look like if rendered in metal. Or how the bold, expressive linework of an artist like Franz Kline could be transformed into a three-dimensional, wearable sculpture.”
Bringing edginess to the line, Mesches’ technique incorporates an innovative approach to materials. The result? A gorgeous “copper patina that naturally shifts to a vibrant teal over 24 hours through a chemical reaction.” Yes, you read that correctly. Elsewhere, the artist experiments with “heat-activated silicone, allowing pieces to transition from bright red to yellow or black to pink, adding a dynamic, ever-changing quality to the works.”
