Known for its regal fashion and ornate hair, the Dark Ages are making a surprising return. From intricate braids that could probably withstand the depth of battle to ringlets that are bound to charm any princely suitor, “ye olde” hairstyles are having a moment.
This movement is also one of Pinterest’s predicted 2025 beauty trends, as searches for “medieval core” are up 110%. “Linked to popular series like House of the Dragon or The Witcher, audiences are drawn to romantic and fantastical eras,” says Leslie Dumeix, a professional makeup artist. In addition to making their hair old-timey, many are embracing romantic and regal makeup as well.

In this clip, Florence Rose expertly creates two braided frontal buns. First, she divides her hair into two even sections, brushing through each one to ensure smoothness before gathering both sections to the top right of her head. Then, she braids each section, weaving them tightly. Once the braids are complete, she flips them back and pins them in place at the sides of her head, securing the look.
