Dr. Martens Relaunches the Iconic Elphie Ballet Flat
Hybrid footwear is here to stay.
Dr. Martens just relaunched its iconic Elphie silhouette, merging the classic ballet flat with a grungy twist. First launched for the Fall/Winter 2014 season, the chunky shoe features a classic DM sole, crafted with a leather upper and lace-up detailing.
Seemingly arriving as the hybrid silhouette trend continues to gain momentum, the relaunch of the Elphie coincides with similar drops like PUMA’s Speedcat Ballerina and UGG’s Bea Mary Jane.
“It is our twist on a classic ballet flat: less dainty, more Docs,” says Bridie Husband, footwear designer at AMP. “Part of our design process is to reference the archive to ensure new styles align with our heritage and brand DNA. We usually design products 18 months to two years before they launch online and in-store. We felt really strongly about bringing back some of our archive for SS25 and the Elphie felt like a natural option – not only because we wanted to explore more slimline silhouettes, but also because it has sparked up a lot of interest socially with many people petitioning for us to bring it back,” she continues.
