Marimekko and Laila Gohar Reimagine the Bedroom as a Place for Play

With a collection inspired by Gohar’s motto, “If it’s ironed, you can wear it out.”

Finnish design house Marimekko is teaming up with artist Laila Gohar to bring us a playful capsule collection inspired by all the things we do in bed. Laila Gohar is an internationally recognized artist who mainly works with food and homewear as her creative medium. She is also known for her high-profile collaborations with fashion, design and luxury brands, having worked with Prada, Hermès, Comme des Garçons, Simone Rocha and Sotheby’s auction house. Alongside this, Gohar has ventured into the product design world, launching her eponymous label, Gohar World, with her sister in 2022.

The capsule is inspired by Gohar’s motto, “If it’s ironed, you can wear it out,” and features bedroom-themed items that she curated with bold Marimekko archive stripe designs by artist Maija Isola. A collection highlight is the pajama range, with the sets designed to be worn both inside and outside the bedroom. You’ll also find sleep masks, bedding and ceramics in sky blues, bright yellows and rich reds. They really showcase Gohar’s effortless style with Marimekko’s joyful ethos through these striking colors and prints.

To celebrate the launch, the brand opened a pop-up at Le Bon Marché department store in Paris that referenced the immersive bedroom experience that Gohar and Marimekko previously created for Milan Design Week. Later this September, the launch will also be celebrated in the U.S., with the brand hosting an event in its Soho Flagship store, so keep an eye out for this one.

The collection is now available at Le Bon Marché in Paris and will be available via the Marimekko website in late September.

In other design news, Petra Collins opens her first gallery show, ‘fangirl.’
