KATSEYE's Manon Bannerman Announces Hiatus From the Group
The pop star is taking time away to focus on her mental health.
KATSEYE’s Manon Bannerman has announced that she will be taking a break from the group, citing her health and wellbeing as the reason behind the hiatus. The news comes only a few weeks after the girl group’s Grammy Awards performance, and has quickly caught the attention of the internet outside of KATSEYE’s fanbase.
Bannerman released a statement via Weverse, saying “Sometimes things unfold in ways we don’t fully control, but I’m trusting the bigger picture. Thank you for standing by me. I love you endlessly and can’t wait to see you again.” Since KATSEYE officially debuted in 2024, Bannerman has amassed a huge following and a fanbase of her own separate from the group.
Many have speculated the reason’s behind her hiatus and the incidents that have led up to her decision. As the only Black girl in the group, she has been subjected to microaggressions from fans online, and fans gave been quick to point out how she has been treated differently than the other five group members over the last two years. Being excluded from or having limited moments in music videos and often being photographed separately, some believe the hiatus is a way for HYBE to slowly transition her out of the group.
Since making the statement, Bannerman has received words of support from SZA, Normani, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and more, the latter two having a shared experience with the pop star as the only Black member of prominent girl groups.
