Marc Jacobs Just Unofficially Kicked off New York Fashion Week
Showing off-schedule with a collection titled “Memory. Loss.”
Marc Jacobs just kicked off New York Fashion Week FW26 ahead of its official start. Showing off-schedule, the brand staged a minimal showcase with plenty of straight lines, high necks and delicate tones.
Titled “Memory. Loss,” the collection was an exploration of how memories shape and inform us. Deeply rooted in nostalgia, the show notes also hint at the inevitability of loss and the work we must put in to keep our memories. The past influences how we act today, who we are, what we create, and what we carry with us, all deeply ingrained in the show’s message and seen through its retro silhouettes.
Walking through the striped back space, models were dressed in boxy silhouettes with undone hair. Waists were dropped to keep straight lines, both horizontally and vertically across the body, while hands were often seen tucked away into broad waistbands. A backwards overcoat, column-shaped midi skirts and collared necklines all suggest a level of conservatism and modesty, echoed in the color palette. Delicate hues of light pinks and blues were offset by an occasional pop of bright purple and yellow, but all were grounded by darker grays and black. This was perhaps a lesson in recession dressing.
