Haus Labs Just Proved Lip Gloss Can Be Transfer-Proof

Our honest review of the brand’s Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer.

As if tracking down your everyday lip combo isn’t taxing enough, it seems like all of your hard work melts away the second you start your day — especially when lip gloss is involved. Although my favorite lip products are an essential part of my everyday makeup routine, I’m not the best at touching up amid my busy schedule. In most cases, this usually means having to face the majority of the day bare-lipped, at least until I can find time to reapply in the mirror.

While lip stains and liquid lipsticks can outlast a few snack breaks, I always figured lip glosses were just fleeting by nature. But, with long-wear products on the rise in the K-beauty makeup space and beyond, it’s not surprising that brands like Haus Labs are revolutionizing the way we see a glossy lip. Specifically, its recently relaunched Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer, which promises to deliver both shine and transfer-proof color, is unlike any of the lip products in my collection.

What To Know About Haus Labs’ Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer

Why The Hype?

Originally released in 2022, the Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer became a cult-favorite for its high-impact pigment and unmatched staying power. After beauty fans relentlessly begged Haus Labs to bring it back, the brand officially announced its return along with eight new shades ranging from sheer to bold. Aside from its claims of providing a high shine finish for to eight hours, the lip lacquer is also said to maintain lip moisture throughout the day thanks to skin-loving ingredients like marine algae extract.

How To Use

Similar to most transfer-proof lip products, the Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer requires a few vital steps to ensure it lasts all day. Just like its name suggests, shaking before application is a nonnegotiable. Next, apply to parted lips, allowing it to dry for a minimum of 15 seconds before touching your lips together. Unlike the viral lip stains of TikTok that can be swiped away to reveal color, the lip lacquer performs its best when it’s completely dried down and left in place.

Since the product brings us eight versatile shades, the possibilities for lip combos are truly endless. However, if you are experimenting with different formulas, I would personally suggest applying the Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer as the very last step of your lip routine — think of it like the top coat of nail polish to seal everything in.

An Honest Review

While I was familiar with similar products like the Romand Juicy Lasting Tint which goes on glossy and diffuses to a transfer-proof, matte tint, nothing could’ve prepared me for the Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer. I will admit that I did have an issue with its watery formula spilling out into my bag and I had to constantly remind myself not to rub my lips together immediately — but, I truly believe that its undeniable longevity is worth all of the minor inconveniences in the world.

However, if you consider that sticky lips feeling to be a deal-breaker, this might not be the product for you. Because of its transfer-proof qualities, a little bit of stickiness comes with the territory. Personally, I got pretty used to the sensation after a few wears. Beyond just sticking to my lips all day long, the lip lacquer is endlessly fun to experiment with and has become the finishing touch to literally any lip look I can dream up. I identify as a pinky nude or browny mauve kind of person when it comes to lips, and the new shade range means there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a Hailey Bieber clean girl or a Lady Gaga red lip aficionado.

The Final Verdict

If you’re convinced a transfer-proof glossy lip is physically impossible, the Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer is a must try. While its sticky texture might seem a little unsettling at first, that feeling will quickly fade away once you realize how long it’s been since you last touched up your lips. With a little bit of practice and a lot of napkins in case of a rare spillage, Haus Labs’ Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer will have you fully convinced makeup miracles are possible.
