Haus Labs' New Liquid Bronzer Was Worth the Wait
Our honest review of the brand’s Sun Dipped Hydrating Bronzing Veil.
Haus Labs‘ first-ever liquid bronzer, the Sun Dipped Hydrating Bronzing Veil, has finally arrived. According to a statement posted on the brand’s Instagram account, the product was set to release with six shades before influencer Golloria received a preview of the collection and requested a wider, more inclusive shade selection. Originally slated to launch in July, the Bronzing Veil instead came this month, with a total of 11 shades completing the expanded range.
After the product sparked online debate about inclusive shade ranges, the delayed launch only heightened the anticipation among beauty fans. As a Haus Labs-lover myself, I was also anxious to get my hands on the product — although, I have mixed feelings about liquid bronzers. But, given the brand’s claims of skincare benefits and a natural glow, I wanted to see if the launch could potentially change my mind.
What To Know About Haus Labs’ Sun Dipped Hydrating Bronzing Veil
Best for: Beginner-friendly application, a natural warm finish
Price: $32 USD on Sephora
Rating: 8/10
Why The Hype?
In addition to its unique liquid formula, the Bronzing Veil is made up of 70% skincare ingredients. Described as having a “serum-like texture,” the bronzer is infused with fermented arnica to calm skin, phytosqualane to nourish, wakame extract to strengthen the skin barrier and hyaluronic filling spheres to smooth texture. Beyond that, just like the rest of the brand’s long-wear lineup, the product is said to last up to 12 hours and blend seamlessly over makeup and on bare skin.
How To Use
The brand suggests dotting the product where the sun naturally hits your face: on the cheekbones, forehead and nose. Afterwards, use a full-bodied liquid brush to blend it out. Personally, I used Haus Labs’ Multi-Purpose Brush, using the smaller end to blend the product out first and then following up with the fluffier end to give it a more diffused look. Depending on your desired glam, you can layer on more product for a sculpted finish or keep it light and sheer for a natural, sunkissed effect. In my own routine, I apply the bronzer after my skin tint and before I go in with blush.
An Honest Review
As someone with a neutral to cool undertone, bronzers often pull too orangey on my skin. Because of this, I tend to stray away from liquid bronzers since I find them to be too pigmented and impossible to blend. However, I noticed that the Haus Labs Bronzing Veil is different in a couple ways. Not only is it more subtle and sheer than I expected it to be, but it’s also far less intimidating to apply for that very reason.
While I imagine the original six shades were far more limiting, I did struggle finding the right shade for me. (Which isn’t a rare occurrence.) Since I was a little nervous about the warmness, I opted for “Golden” which is on the lighter side compared to bronzer shades I would typically reach for. However, just like the customizable coverage, I can see how a wide shade range can come in handy based on what you’re trying to achieve.
The Final Verdict
Liquid bronzer can be scary, but Haus Labs’ Sun Dipped Hydrating Bronzing Veil isn’t. It lasts just as long as the brand’s beloved foundation and it actually feels good on the skin. If you typically opt for a glowy, natural bronzed look, it’ll fit seamlessly into your routine — not to mention, it can be adjusted to suit any occasion. For me, the biggest plus is how it nourishes your skin as you wear it, and the sheer fact that you never have to worry about it clogging your pores or leaving behind a muddy streak like a lot of liquid bronzers do.
