Everlane Cotton V-Neck
When I need a basic clothing item, I’d instantly think of Everlane. The brand produces quality items that are made to last which is exactly what I need when in a style freeze. Throwing on the brand’s cotton V-neck T-shirt instantly elevates my look while still providing comfort. The Supima cotton material is super cozy and breathable so ladies can layer with this item too. Its relaxed fit allows for me to tie in up in the front adding even more definition to the waistline. You’ll want to stock up on this $15 USD tee ASAP. – Esiwahomi Ozemebhoya, Associate Editor
ARE YOU AM I Impy Tee
Finding the right white T-shirt is like a needle in a haystack. Cue Rumi Neely’s brand, ARE YOU AM I and its Impy Tee. There’s something about white T-shirts that I don’t like oversized – contrary to the other T-shirts I own. The baby tee is constructed with thick, cotton spandex and includes an over-wide neckband and a raw edge hem. It’s not completely opaque so size up to avoid stretching. I like to wear it with loose denim. The last thing I should note is that the Impy is designed to honor the ‘90s – so much so that it’s “Too 90s for the 90s.” Priced at $90 USD, it’s not cheap but I value its distinct cut. – Lily Chen, Senior Editor
Weekday Easy T-shirt
We all know finding the perfect white tee can be a nightmare, and I for one am so messy I begrudge forking out a ton of money on them because within about 30 minutes of wearing it, it absolutely will have a coffee stain right down the front. So instead of investing in a designer version, I stock up on Weekday’s Easy T-shirts and buy them in bulk whenever they’re in stock. It’s constructed from a soft, organic cotton and importantly it isn’t see-through, unlike other white tees on the market at this price point. Fit is one thing that this Swedish retailer does well, and the relaxed cut, dropped shoulders and general oversized style makes this shirt the embodiment of effortless model off-duty chic. At just £12 GBP (approx. $16 USD) it doesn’t matter how many of these I make a mess of, there’s always another one ready and waiting in my rotation. – Nav Gill, Editor
Ann Taylor Pima Cotton Scoop Neck Tee
Finding the perfect white tee wasn’t on my radar (I’m big on colors) until I came across a personal emergency. Back during my Ann Taylor retail days, I had a tiny accident and spilled something on the shirt I was wearing to work, so I had no choice but to grab a tee to wear. Since I always saw customers flocking to the basic T-shirt tables during winter and summertime, I decided to grab a simple Pima Cotton Scoop Neck Tee. After wearing it during this shift, I was sold and I began packing it for quick weekend trips and vacations. I love how flattering the scoop neck detail is and I also enjoy the soft pima cotton makeup of it. I’ve worn this shirt in numerous settings. I’ve slept in it and I’ve even paired it with flowy skirts and denim. It’s honestly one of my favorite picks in my closet. It prices out at $24.50 USD, which isn’t too pricey if you’re looking to take the plunge and try it out for yourself. – Robyn Mowatt, Associate Editor
Muji Organic Cotton Short Sleeves T-Shirt
I love the unisex appeal of a plain white T-shirt. Rather than going for something slim-fit, I’d typically opt for oversized designs when it comes to shopping for tees. Like everything else in its store offering, Muji’s white organic cotton crewneck is impeccable. Made with 100-percent cotton, the T-shirt feels soft and sturdy at the same time. Another thing I like about the shirt is that it’s not overly sheer, meaning I don’t have to fuss about what bra to wear underneath. I’ve sized up to a Large and the loose fit of the tee makes it great for layering with knit sweaters during the fall and winter season. Retailing at only $10 USD, this Muji tee is easily my go-to. – Teresa Lam, Editor
Acne Studios Men’s Basic T-Shirt
When I say I’m picky when it comes to my white T-shirts, I’m not exaggerating. I find it next to impossible to buy white tees from any womenswear brand, because I find that the fit just isn’t right. It took me several years to find the ideal shirt, and once I ventured into Acne Studios’ men’s section, I was sold. When it comes to everyday pieces, I don’t mind splurging or spending a bit more to ensure I get a quality piece that lasts. At $100 USD, it may seem like a pretty price to pay – but it is so worth it. Each season the cut and material differ in the slightest, but the 100-percent cotton and ribbed neckline remains the same, and the fit is absolutely perfect. – Tora Northman, Associate Editor
Uniqlo U Men’s Crewneck Short-Sleeve T-Shirt
I know, I know – I’ve already reviewed Uniqlo U’s women’s tee but honestly, Christophe Lemaire’s sublabel at the Japanese brand is my favorite go-to for wardrobe essentials. In fact, most of my plain T-shirts are from Uniqlo U. Switching it up a bit, I’ve found that the men’s section actually has a great selection of “oversized” tees. One of my top picks for the fall season is a crewneck constructed out of 100-percent heavyweight cotton. Due to its fabrication, the shirt is much thicker than your typical tee and has a slightly rougher texture, which makes it perfect for cooler fall weather. It boasts a relaxed, loose fit and is great for pairing with jeans or even trousers. Because this cut is designed for men, it is slightly longer than what I usually prefer, but I find that this oversized fit styles well when tucked in (or also with a French tuck, because Tan France). You can pick up this tee at all Uniqlo stores, as well as online, where it retails for $9.90 USD. – Zarah Cheng, Managing Editor
